If you’re wondering where to stay in Rome accommodation, stay tuned because this blog is about our favorite Airbnbs and hotels in the city of Rome. In fact, we’re going to share three of our favorite hotels and three of our favorite Airbnbs. We have stayed in a lot, so these ones have really stood out over the years and made a lasting impression on us. We’d like to share them with you because, if you’re planning to come to Rome, these are awesome options.
In this blog, I will discuss where to stay, what to eat, and other things to do in Rome related to Rome accommodation.

To start, I’d like to share with you one of our favorite hotels: the Hotel Santa Maria, located in Trastevere. It’s just across the Tiber, about a 15 to 20-minute taxi ride from the Termini station. Now, this hotel was awesome. We stayed there about 20 years ago and then again more recently. When we came back, we were reminded of how much we really love this hotel and why it left such a good impression on us 20 years ago. The grounds of this place are immaculate. In fact, there’s a nice gate that you have to go through, so it’s secure. That’s important, right?
Also, when you’re back there, the grounds are wonderful. There’s a great atmosphere with a garden area where you can enjoy your morning breakfast or come home in the evening and relax. The rooms are very comfortable, and the staff couldn’t be friendlier. I was recently on Google Reviews just to check the ratings, and it was rated at 4.
There aren’t many hotels in all of Rome that are rated that highly, especially with as many reviews as this hotel has. So, if you’re looking for a great hotel, you will not be disappointed, I promise you. Hotel Santa Maria, located in Trastevere, is awesome.
Just a quick interruption for those who subscribe to my channel: I want to thank you, and if you’re new, please consider subscribing if you want quality information about Rome. That’s what I try to deliver in every blog.

Our next hotel is one of our favorites as well. It’s located right next to Campo de’ Fiori, and it’s called Hotel Campo Fiori. What we love most about this hotel, other than its ideal location, is its wonderful rooftop terrace where you can hang out in the morning or at night after you’re done touring the city.
It’s just a super fun and relaxing place to hang out, with great views from there. The hotel staff is super warm and friendly, and the breakfast was great. Again, it’s just a super nice hotel. I think you’ll really love this one. It’s rated… I’m not exactly sure, I haven’t checked Google reviews, but I’d be surprised if it’s rated low because we loved this place, and I think you will too. Hotel Campo de’ Fiori was definitely one of our favorites.
Rome vacation rentals
So, if you read some of my blogs, you know that I love the area of Campo de’ Fiori, at least as a base for when you’re touring Rome, especially on your first time. This hotel is also located next to Campo de’ Fiori, not right in the square, but very close.

This hotel is wonderful. Again, it also includes a very nice breakfast, and the rooms are super nice. The staff is excellent. You know, I just think when you combine Rome’s best location with one of its best properties, you end up with magic. All three of these places we’ve mentioned offer that. If it was my first time in Rome, I’d probably, just because of the location, stay near the Campo de’ Fiori area. From the Campo de’ Fiori area, it’s very easy to head out in the evening and find a great dinner spot.
To head over to the Trastevere neighborhood, it’s only a 5-minute walk to Piazza Navona or maybe a 10-minute walk to the Pantheon. You’ve got the Jewish Ghetto, which is just 5 or 10 minutes away. So many sites are right there next to this area. If it’s your first time in Rome, I’d recommend staying either at Hotel Lunetta or Hotel Campo de’ Fiori. As far as location goes, I think that trumps even though I think Hotel Santa Maria is very special. These two hotels will probably be a better fit for you if it’s your first time in Rome.
Cynthia’s Place
The first Airbnb I’d like to share with you is called Cynthia’s Place. It’s an Airbnb located right in Largo Argentina, not far from Campo de’ Fiori. Again, it’s kind of the hub of all the sites in Rome, so it makes it super convenient to be there. It’s just a 5-minute walk to the Jewish Ghetto, 5 minutes to the Pantheon, 10 minutes to Piazza Navona, 5 minutes to Campo de’ Fiori, and 10 minutes to Trastevere. So many other sites are within walking distance of this location, but it’s not just the location that makes this Airbnb special.
It’s the host and the accommodation itself. The hosts are wonderful, and the condition of this place is immaculate. The cleanliness is top-notch, the beds are very comfortable, and the kitchen is fully stocked. It’s a very nice kitchen. I don’t know what else to say other than it is a great Airbnb. If you look on Airbnb, it has almost a 5.0 rating out of several hundred reviews, and that’s hard to do. Once you get above 100 reviews or so, many reviews start dropping down, but this one has held its reviews way high. It does not surprise me because our experience there was fabulous, and I’m sure everybody else who has stayed there has had a similar experience. So, Cynthia’s Place is definitely a great Airbnb.
I’m not exactly sure of the cost because it depends on the time of year and everything, but it’s around $250 to $300 a night. If you’re able to get this one booked and there’s availability, don’t second-guess it—book it!

The next Airbnb I want to share with you is one of our favorites. It’s located in Trastevere, not too far from Hotel Santa Maria—just a few blocks away. It’s called Simona’s Place. I’m going to leave a link to this and all of the hotels and Airbnbs we’ve talked about in the description.
This Airbnb was really special—super clean and super modern. The bedroom had a nice king-size bed, and it was super comfortable. We slept great there. It was quiet, and the kitchen was modern and well-equipped. If you love cooking, you’re going to love this kitchen. The front room, or gathering room, had nice comfortable furniture to sit down on, a nice TV, and a little balcony where you could step out. There was a table out there, and it was a private balcony, located at the back of the building. You could just step out, relax, and hear the birds. It was very peaceful. We loved this place. So, if it’s available, I highly recommend you get it booked if you want to stay in the Trastevere neighborhood. It was wonderful.
Another one of our favorite Airbnbs is located in the Monti neighborhood, which is right next to the Coliseum. This particular place is called “The Penthouse with Terrace Near the Coliseum.” It’s really original, but it really is just that. This place is great—it’s an apartment, modern, well-equipped, and feels spacious. It has a nice large private terrace, and from the terrace, you have great views of the Coliseum and the Monti neighborhood. It’s just a great place to go and relax, whether it be in the morning or after a long day of touring the city. Come home to this at night, and you’re going to feel very comfortable. It will definitely be well worth it for you. So, splurge a little bit when you’re in Rome, especially on accommodations. You’re going to see a lot of the city, but having a place to come home to that’s all yours, with a priceless view, is awesome.

All of these hotels are within walking distance of some of the city’s most famous sites, and they all have their own unique features to offer. The first hotel we’re heading to is the Rome Times Hotel. This four-star hotel is amazingly well-located for sightseeing, with some of the nearest sites being the Coliseum, just a 10-minute walk away, and the Trevi Fountain, which is a 15-minute walk away.
The first thing you’ll notice when you walk into the lobby is the amazing smell. The shared spaces are filled with these massive diffusers, which make everything smell fantastic. One day, they’ll invent a way for me to capture smells on camera, but until then, you’ll just have to take my word for it or visit the hotel yourself.
Rome Times is made up of two buildings next door to each other. The main building houses the lobby, spa, restaurant, bar, and half the rooms. The other building is home to the rest of the rooms and the rooftop terrace. The annex is just a short walk down the street, but the rooms in both buildings are the same.
The rooftop terrace in the annex is a real plus. It’s a lovely place to catch some sun or just enjoy the city atmosphere passing by below. Rome Times’ new spa opened in summer 2024, and it is beautiful. Located in the basement, there’s a sauna and steam room here, as well as a few treatment rooms. There are also gym facilities down here. The Times’ restaurant is open for lunch and dinner, serving delicious, authentic Roman cuisine.
The cocktail bar has an extensive menu, but if you’re craving something unique, ask the barman and see what they can whip up for you. In the surrounding streets, you’ll find plenty of excellent restaurants, bars, and shops. Rome Times Hotel has a great location and gorgeous facilities, which makes it a perfect pick for a dreamy Rome stay. Stays at Rome Times start from £291 per person for a three-night city break.

Nestled in an atmospheric side street just off Piazza Navona, you’ll find Navona Palace. This hotel feels like a secret, tucked away into the wall. Once you get inside, you’ll see these winding staircases leading all the way up to the rooms. The rooms come in a variety of different sizes, and you can also choose to book a suite, which comes with a balcony and a fancy bathtub. There’s a spa in the basement where you can get treatments for an additional charge. If you have a treatment, you’ll get access to the spa, steam room, and sauna. The lighting in here is magical.
For breakfast, you’ll be given a token at reception for the restaurant next door, where a continental buffet breakfast is served. Navona Palace is fantastically located for exploring Rome on foot. From here, you can reach the Trevi Fountain in just 15 minutes, and it’s a 25-minute walk to Vatican City or the Coliseum. If you are planning on exploring Rome on foot, make sure to pack comfortable shoes and leave the heels at home, as most of the streets are cobbled. In the area surrounding the hotel, there are a ton of restaurants.
Bars and gelato parlors to try, so you’re never going to be at a loss for somewhere to eat. We found this delicious gelato shop on the street outside. The gelato came from these proper tins, and it was super fresh and flavorful. We also had to try this lemon sorbet served in a real lemon—delicious, though very messy. We just couldn’t get over how central this hotel is. We were able to walk to almost every noteworthy landmark and loved how many amenities were in the immediate vicinity. Stays at Navona Palace start from £300 per person for a three-night city break.

Let’s head to our next hotel: just a 20-minute walk from the Coliseum, you’ll find Rhinoceros Apartments. This is a unique hotel consisting of several sleek, modern self-catering apartments. The decor is industrial chic—it’s really unlike anything else on this list. For starters, there’s a modern art gallery in the lobby, including this giant rhinoceros model, which is the hotel’s namesake. Head through the atmospheric corridors to your room. Each apartment comes with a kitchenette and a spacious bathroom. The kitchenette is hidden behind metal paneling and can be revealed with a switch, which is pretty cool.
These apartments really made me feel like I was in a James Bond movie. Every one of the apartments comes with a bottle of wine and some premixed cocktails with stylish martini glasses to drink them from. These amenities come at an extra charge. On the top floor, you’ll find a trendy rooftop bar with 360° views of Rome. You’ll also find the gallery.

If being right next to some of the city’s most iconic landmarks is high on your priority list, then Trevi Palace Luxury Inn would be a good pick for you. Located on a side street just off the square for Trevi Fountain, this hidden-away hotel is in an incredibly central location. Trevi Fountain is one of the most iconic Roman landmarks, especially if you’re chasing that all-important fountain photo. However, the fountain gets extremely busy, so the joy of this hotel is that it’s right on your doorstep. We were there at 7:30 in the morning, and as you can see, it’s still pretty busy, but honestly, it is worth the early start.
The hotel is bed and breakfast, and you can get a light continental breakfast at the hotel before heading out to explore. Enjoy lovely classical rooms, and you can even upgrade to a suite for more space and a balcony in some cases. Trevi Palace Hotel is ideal for those who want to spend their time exploring all that Rome has to offer. Stays here start from £370 per person for a three-night city break.

We’re heading a little further out of the hustle and bustle of the city center for our next hotel. The Building Hotel is located in Northeast Central Rome, just a 15-minute walk to Rome Termini station. The hub of this gorgeous hotel was once a church, but it’s now been converted into a bar and restaurant, which you can tell from the architecture. I particularly loved these gorgeous stained-glass windows. The Building Hotel is one of the only hotels in central Rome that boasts a pool, which is a real bonus in the hotter months.
There’s also this show-stopping Roman-style spa with a beautiful heated pool and steam rooms. Treatments are available here at an extra charge. The rooms are gorgeous and quiet. You can upgrade to a junior suite for an extra charge, which gets you a two-tier room complete with its own jacuzzi-style bathtub. Dine at a restaurant and for delicious Mediterranean and international dishes prepared fresh every day.
The Building is near Villa Bessa, which is a lovely park home to several different museums and landmarks. Head to the Temple of Asclepius, where you can hire a boat to go out on the lake. If you’re looking for a quiet retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city, then The Building Hotel would be a great choice. Prices start from £329 per person for a three-night city break.
